No matter what else happens culturally this year, it's all ok with me. Why, do you ask? Well, Dali is coming to Philadelphia.
After Duchamp, he's probably my favorite artist of the 20th century. His wild ideas, his high level of craft, his attitude all appeal to me in a variety of ways. Looks to be a huge retrospective, and Philly is the only U.S. venue.
So go. You owe it to yourself to visit him in 2005.

You should. Philly's not that far, either. And it's a fun city. I'm curious how this one compares to the Dali show the Hirshhorn had a couple of years ago. Based solely on the Philly Musuem website this sounds larger.
I just realized, seeming him in Philly is perfect. The Philadelphia Museum also has some great Duchamps, and I haven't seen them in awhile.
Philly also hosts a great Children's Art museum that was started by Maurice Sendak. I tried to go once, but you have to have a kid with you. Adults can't go alone :(
Wow, that does sound cool. I've been to Philly a couple times... all I really know about is there's a cool cigar bar there. :) My roommate have gone up there for the black tie opening of the Flower Show for several years. It's a neat experience -- one wouldn't think people could do such cool things with flowers. Her mom is always one of the exhibitors/contestants.
But the Dali exhibit sounds great, as does the Sendak museum, though how unfair, to be discriminatory against people who don't have kids! Not fair.
Hey Heb, check out this months' issue of Art News: Dali is the cover story. I haven't read it yet, but I'm assuming the article coincides with the show in Philly.
